There is a SPEECH EVENTS extension for the Chrome browser that allows you to start and open sessions without first logging in to Video.Taxi.
To add this extension to your Chrome browser, search the Chrome Web Store for “VIDEO.TAXI - SPEECH EVENTS Controller” or simply open this link. Then click “Add to Chrome” on the right.
The extension’s black-and-orange icon will now appear to the right of the search bar in your browser. Clicking it opens a window. To grant the application access to your SPEECH EVENTS account, you’ll need to enter an API key from your Video.Taxi account. To do this, click “Set Up Now.” You only need to do this once after downloading the extension.
In your Video.Taxi account, you can create an API key under ACCOUNT - API KEYS (here are detailed instructions). You’ll need to set the permission for SPEECH to “Write” and then save your changes.
Now copy the API key you created and paste it into the settings that opened after you clicked “Set Up Now” in the previous step. Then click “Save.”
Now scroll down further in the settings to “Microphone Access” and grant the extension permission to access your microphone so that your audio can be transcribed as soon as you start a SPEECH session.
Now you can easily start or view a SPEECH EVENTS session using the extension without having to open Video.Taxi first. Just click the extension icon in the upper-right corner.
In the window that opens, you can select a “Speech Session” you created earlier. Below that, select the microphone and the language being spoken. The audio level indicator shows you whether an audio signal is currently being received by the selected microphone. To start a session, click “Start Sending.”
Below the audio level, you’ll then see a transcript preview showing the text currently being transcribed. At the very bottom, you can also open the transcript in fullscreen mode—this will open a new browser window with the transcription in full screen.
This is what the transcription looks like in fullscreen mode. In the top-right corner, you can set the language in which the transcript should be displayed (provided you added translations when creating the session).
To exit fullscreen mode, hover your mouse over the top edge and click the cross that appears. Alternatively, you can close the browser window or click “Close fullscreen” in the extension window.
You can also configure some default settings for the fullscreen mode. To access these settings, click the gear icon in the extension window.
For each session, you can preset the display language, text direction, and browser zoom level. You can also choose whether to play the audio translation, display the original-language transcript alongside translations, show a QR code, and display an event information link in full-screen mode.
Under “Fullscreen monitor,” you can specify which screen connected to your computer should be used by default for fullscreen mode.
