With the Video.Taxi Translator function, you can hold conversations with people who speak a different language without having to speak it yourself. The application acts as an automatic interpreter between the conversation partners. In a nutshell, it works like this: both people have the Translator open on their device (e.g. cell phone, tablet or computer) and use it to record what they want to say. The other person then receives what is said in their language as text and audio with a minimal time delay.
You can find the function in your Video.Taxi account under “SPEECH”.
Here you can now open the application either directly on your computer (“Open on this device”) or by scanning the QR code on your smartphone.
The application will now open and you can select which language you and your conversation partner speak.
After you have clicked on “Start Conversation”, you will immediately receive a QR code that you can hold out to the other person to scan so that they can open the application on their cell phone or tablet. Your conversation partner does not need an extra Video.Taxi account for this.
When you or the person you are talking to opens the application for the first time, the browser will ask you for microphone authorization, which you must grant in order to use the function.
If you want to say something that needs to be translated, press and hold the microphone icon below while you are speaking. The translation will then be delivered to the other person as text and audio with a minimal offset.
This is what the interface looks like during the conversation. The German conversation partner on the left and the English one on the right.
If you want to end the session, simply click on the cross at the top right or close the browser tab.
